The Japan Association for Wind Engineering contributes to the development of science and technology related to wind engineering, serving as a networking platform for those who are concerned and interested, with the intention to engage in achieving a safe, comfortable, and sustainable society.

To achieve a safe, comfortable, and sustainable society, the Japan Association for Wind Engineering will globally lead the wind engineering community by stimulating novel scientific studies and disseminating technologies to society.

With rising concern about the increased frequency and intensity of climate-related disasters, we will contribute to the realization of a resilient society by assessing disaster risks thereby proposing wind-resistant design methods and damage reduction measures.

  • Hazard assessments of extreme weather events that are accelerated by climate change
  • Improvement of the wind-resistant performance of structures through advanced wind-resistant design and maintenance management
  • Impact assessments of meteorological phenomena on economic and social activities, and proposal of damage reduction measures
  • Reduction of damage from meteorological disasters through the utilization of ICT and digital technologies

In keeping with rapidly changing era in society, technology, and climate, we will contribute to the formation of comfortable living spaces and societies as well as the realization of people’s well-being from the perspective of wind observation, prediction, control, and utilization.

  • Environmental analysis as well as health and comfort assessments of people in cities and buildings in the context of climate and social changes
  • Design and operational support for smart cities and buildings to adapt climate change and co-exist with nature
  • Planning and operational support for the diverse outdoor activities of citizens, including sports.
  • Accurate understanding and prediction of weather and climate based on remote sensing and high-resolution ground observation
  • Planning and operational support of comfortable and efficient mobility and transportation systems
  • Technological development and environmental understanding for expanding human living spaces, such as super high-rise buildings, outer space, and deep sea

We will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society through research and development combined with the promotion and dissemination of renewable energy and energy-saving technologies, providing advanced educational opportunities and technologies to developing countries and others.

  • Research and development combined with the promotion and dissemination of renewable energy, such as wind, solar, and geothermal energy
  • Research and development combined with the promotion and dissemination of energy-saving technologies, such as improved ventilation in cities and buildings, and aerodynamics of transportation
  • Elimination of educational disparities by providing educational opportunities to developing countries and others, and support for the realization of a resilient society by providing advanced technologies
